Review: Maybelline Volum' Express 'the Colossal' Mascara

I was in desperate need of a mascara a month or two ago. Sadly my favourite Maybelline Define-A-Lash was out of stock and I was forced to choose between the colossal volum' express and the Falsies. Obviously you can guess which one I chose. My friend Sara, told me to go for the Falsies and bought the colossal volum' espress instead.

What I look for in a mascara is, it should make my lashes look fiercely dramatic. The name of the mascara screams enormous lashes. But does it really live up to it's claims?

Maybelline claims:

COLOSSAL LASHES IN JUST ONE COAT!
CREATES 9X THE VOLUME, instantly COLLAGEN FORMULA  + MEGA BRUSH plumps lashes

The Good

One thing is for sure, this mascara does't clump. You can apply as many coats of it as you want and it won't clump. It separates my lashes quite nicely and lengthens my lashes just a little. The Colossal mascara doesn't smudge during the day and it's safe to say that it's long wearing.

The Bad

You can see a glimpse of the magic only after applying numerous coats of this mascara. One or two coats will not be enough. Even after applying various coats of the mascara, I'm not wowed by the result. Maybelline claims that this mascara will lengthen your lashes up 9x. I honestly haven't seen that happening when I apply it. Also the gigantic wand makes it slightly tricky to reach the outer lashes (it's noticeable in the pictures).

Before
After

You can see that it has separated my lashes without looking clumpy. The mascara has also provided a little length. Not as much as I was hoping for when I bought it.

Final Thoughts

This is something I don't see my self repurchasing. However I do recommend this mascara to those who like their lashes to look as natural as possible, with just a little definition. I still prefer the Maybelline Define-A-Lash to this one. With a lash curler, this mascara is quite good; without, it's only a little better than average. That's not a bad thing at all, but don't expect jaw-dropping results from this one.

Moral of the story? I should always trust Sara when it comes to mascaras. Haha!

Have you tried this mascara? Has it worked better for you?

Benish: you're right sometimes they are a little over rated. I love their Define-A-Lash mascara though. This one doesn't do much for me:(
